It's All Greek To Me

Today started early… or maybe yesterday never ended? I’m not quite sure anymore. We woke up at 4 in order to board a bus to the airport in Rome (a whopping 2 hours away) at 4:30, meaning I got very little sleep. Surely, I thought, I could just steal a nap on the bus, right? Oh, I have never been so wrong, The bus had the hiccups the entire two hour drive, bumping up and down, up and down. If you had to take a bus to descend into hell, I imagine this experience would have been very similar. Every time I attempted to prop my head up against the window, I felt like I was at a rock concert, head-banging to no end. When I tried to rest my head on the seat in front of me, I woke up only to find that in the 5 minutes I had been asleep, my hair had become one with the bus… literally. It was stuck to a strip of Velcro. Bad hair day? Um, yes. But, then again, everybody looks a little rough on travel days:

Our bus driver woke everyone up with a “wakey wakey” (that happened to be way too similar to the Asian guy’s in the movie Sixteen Candles) when we arrived at the airport. In my delirium, I found this to be extremely hilarious. It did put everybody in a much more lighthearted mood as we quickly took over the baggage check line. After a short carb-loaded breakfast and a game of Egyptian Ratscrew, we boarded the plane. I sat between Ariel and a 20-something-year-old USC business student named Johnny who was currently traveling through Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Greece with some friends of his, just for adventure’s sake. He was also reading a book called “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” which he made sound so interesting, I might just read it! Another great example of how airplanes introduce the most unlikely people, even if their conversations do only last for a grand total of five minutes.

After getting off the plane and landing in Athens, we hopped on yet another bus for a 3-hour drive to Delphi. Yayyyyyyyyy. It wasn’t too bad, though, considering I had my book, iPod, and the Lizzie McGuire moving playing on the bus’s TV system. It was also much more smooth of a ride, making it easy to sleep and therefore extremely more enjoyable. Once we hit the winding roads, though, I was wide-awake. We swerved through the mountains in zigzag-like patterns, overlooking a large valley and surrounding villages, as well as the Sea of Corinth (or at least I think that's what that vast body of water is?). After checking into Hotel Kouros (a cute, bed-and-breakfast living style) with my 2-time-in-a-row roommate Ariel, David and Carolyn took us all out to a nice dinner where I received a delicious helping of pork, cheese, and eggplant to eat and a beautiful, over-looking, outdoor balcony to sit on. After we finished our meals, we headed back to the hotel and were given a clear view the red-ish-orange-tinted Lunar Eclipse from the roof. It was magnificent, historical, and I was able to use my tripod that I bought with my grad money for this trip. TRIPPLE SCORE. Here are just a couple shots I snapped. Enjoy and yasas (Greek for goodbye) y’all!
